My Musical Journey

My musical journey may best be described as rather…haphazard.  For much of my life, my family struggled to afford consistent lessons, so, when I wasn’t left to my own devices, I was rotating between whichever teacher we could afford at the time.  Sometimes that meant classically-trained conservatory grads or jazz band teachers, and other times, I was taught by family friends who happened to have a passing interest in music and a little extra time on the weekends.  Along this path, I picked up improvisation, sang in choir, composed for string orchestras, and performed all sorts of music from Journey and the Beatles to Brahms and Ornstein.  Despite this rather “scattered” upbringing, or perhaps because of it, by the time I entered music college, my skillset was far more versatile than if I had followed a simpler, more straightforward path.

In honor of that journey and those who helped me along the way, the videos presented below (in chronological order) represent many of my most significant musical milestones.  While some of these recordings are fairly unpolished or lower in fidelity/quality, they represent some of the most important events or transformations in my musical life.  And as I came to learn over the years, these moments, guided by passion and intention, are far more important to music than perfection.
